SafeContractor is one of the UK’s industry-leading health and safety assessment schemes, operating two strategies: Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC); and Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC).
Once companies have registered with SafeContractor, they can then become an accredited member. This means their training, policies, procedures and insurances are rigorously audited to reassure prospective customers that they are a reputable, reliable and safe contractor.
The accreditation enhances a company’s reputation – reassuring customers that they will receive the best service that complies with health and safety requirements. Accredited companies’ details appear on an online database, so you can carry out a simple search for approved contractors.
How to become accredited
Accredited SafeContractor companies must complete a detailed desktop audit that begins with a comprehensive questionnaire that is adaptable to the business’s size and area of work. An auditor assesses the questionnaire to ascertain whether the applicant has satisfactory risk management processes in place – that are sufficient to cover their particular work activity.
The Audit Services Team is made up of health and safety professionals with the relevant technical qualifications and industry membership – such as a Master’s Degree in Safety and the NEBOSH General Certificate.
Auditors will have a wealth of practical experience through their work across a broad range of sectors such as construction, engineering, consultancy and maintenance. They might have even gained experience internally. The auditors are continually subject to rigorous individual quality monitoring and participate in performance management programmes to make sure every audit is consistent and of the required standard.
If the company passes the audit process, they will become an accredited SafeContractor. If the applicant doesn’t meet the required standard, professional assistance is available from experts at SafeContractor to help them make the necessary improvements to achieve success.
Successful applicants will receive an accreditation certificate and can display “SafeContractor Approved” stickers on their work vehicles.
Membership and accreditation are renewed annually – when companies must undergo an accreditation audit aimed at ensuring all risk management processes remain at the highest standard.
Accredited SafeContractors are trusted and well-known for their health and safety procedures and processes – to give customers the peace of mind they deserve.
